REWARD YOURSELF INTERVIEW SERIES

By Liena Wright _ April 24th, 2021

We’ve loved reading all your brilliant nominations as part of our Reward Yourself competition. It’s been a tough year for everyone, but so many fantastic stories have come out of it too — we all deserve a (virtual) high five for sticking together while apart.

We’ve decided to interview a few friends, fans and industry-folk about their experiences of lockdown and who they’d nominate for a reward. We spoke to Sue Jennings, Director of Left Bank Leeds

Hello Sue! How has the past year been for you?

It’s been a tough year for so many people. We’ve been so lucky to have Left Bank Leeds as a venue, community and space for everyone to get together safely (when possible) and be creative together.

Throughout last summer and at various stages of 2020, we were able to open and — with social distancing in place — host some great events, markets and activities. Almost every Wednesday the space transformed as part of our Creative Wednesday Meet Ups, with people getting together from all walks of life to share ideas, talent and more. We also had Hello Hip Hop and legendary graffiti artist Hyro Graff bring hip hop to Left Bank as part of our family-friendly Lunch Breaks.

It’s been fantastic being able to reopen our garden; we’ve got so much lined up over the next year and can’t wait to welcome everyone back.

Who would you nominate for a reward?

I’d love to nominate every single person that’s been involved in Left Bank Leeds over the past few months — from our staff, to those who have brought their creative minds into the space and everyone that’s visited. But if I had to choose just one, it would be Steve Corbridge, our Building Manager.

He’s had an integral role in bringing the space to life over the last year. He’s incredibly committed and just the best colleague you could wish for. Everyone needs a Steve in their life!

And what would it be?

Steve loves beer — and motorbikes (although not at the same time!). A holiday, or  experience, involving both of those would be perfect for him. He more than deserves it!

Thanks Sue!
