In November 2021, as the pandemic worsened and created a panto-shaped hole in many families’ festive preparations, our limited edition tub took centre stage at Waitrose.
We’re pleased to announce that thanks to you and the ice cream you all bought, our limited edition tub raised over £9K to support the arts at a much needed time.
That’s….
At Northern Bloc, we love the arts. Many of our first customers were performing arts venues, including Leeds Grand Theatre, right here in this great city we call home.
It takes an army to put on a show. Actors, musicians, dancers, directors, wardrobe teams and box office staff, to name just a few, face a very uncertain future due to Covid-19. Freelancers make up 70% of the workforce in theatres and at least a quarter of these talented individuals have no access to financial support of any kind. We wanted to help. In the way that we know best…
Vegan white chocolate? Oh yes we did!
We got Manolo on the case, knowing that a limited edition charity ice cream was our best chance of raising awareness of the problem and much needed funds – and he’s pulled it out of the bag this time. With it’s super high dairy content, white chocolate is pretty hard to replicate in a vegan-friendly way. But we’ve cracked it. Our new flavour, The Show Must Go On! is vegan white chocolate with honeycomb, adding that perfect autumnal crunch, and packs in everything we love about Northern Bloc. It’s bold. It’s all natural. It’s vegan-friendly and it’s plastic free. And to top it off, proceeds will go towards Theatre Support Fund+ to help our friends in the theatre.
The Theatre Support Fund+, was the brainchild of two employees of the West End who wanted to help the thousands that have been hit financially by Covid, both on stage and behind the scenes. Chris Marcus and Damien Stanton created t-shirts emblazoned with the slogan, The Show Must Go On!, made up of artwork from 16 of the West End’s most popular musicals. Over £500,000 has been raised to date to support three charities; Acting for Others, The Fleabag Support Fund and NHS Covid-19 Urgent Appeal, all of which help those in the industry most impacted by the virus. The launch has attracted a cult following and celebs from Judi Dench to Beverley Knight have been spotted sporting the merch. Next, a sell-out, The Show Must Go On! Live charity concert will take place to continue to raise money and we’ll be there, cheering from the front row.
The Show Must Go On! launched exclusively in Waitrose in store and online from Nov 2021 to Summer 2022.
